Hi everyone, and thank you to any that attend this event.
My work for this exhibition is part of an on-going project. These 4 pieces are the first of several. This project is called Ritual in Glass. It is about opening up and expanding the minds, views and opinions of people about what rituals are and what they are about. The most notable and well known ritual is Tarot cards and Tarot reading. I wanted to change perceptions of these material manifestations of ritual, and make them more interesting, visual intriguing and mentally stimulate.
I've found that there is an innate connection between tarot and human intention, as well as desire. The stronger the desire/intention, the more profound the reading. But is that a good thing or a bad thing? There are some people who find tarot to be work of the devil or evil, but honestly, like all things, it's not the object that is a evil, it's the person behind it. Objects have no desire, are not evil and do nothing good or bad, they just are; like a tree or a bird. However, they are beautiful and creative, innovative and in the hands of the right person, insightful.
With these pieces, I want to bring new light, ideas and interest to tarot and rituals in general. Turn what people originally thought of them on their head, and invite intrigue and real interest. There is beauty in the different and the mundane, it's all about how they are presented.
Below are the pieces on show, including their name and the material used to created them.
Title: GREED

Title: UNIVERSE

Title: ECLIPSE

Each piece is handmade. The glass paper is created from glass powder and colouring, before firing and then painted, using paint made from glass powder and ceramic stains. Each pieces takes days to create before being placed in a frame. The pieces are too look old-ish, with the glass paper looking yellow and dis-coloured on purpose. These four pieces are approx. the size of an A3 piece of paper.
I hope you enjoy my pieces during the exhibition, as well as everyone else's work. These are for sale during this exhibition, so please contact the exhibition curator to enquire about price or to purchase.
